Now, to the subject of The Outdoor Cooking Show for today – Halloween. Halloween is actually a shortened version of the “Hallows Eve,” or the day before “All Hallows’ Day,” (as in Hallowed Saints) which is November 1st. It was originally a three-day Christian feast dedicated to remembering the dead, including saints, martyrs and the faithful departed, but over time it somehow morphed from remembering the dead into dressing up like the dead – and thus…Halloween. The old religious observance including attending church services and lighting candles on the graves of the dead, and some Christians even abstained from eating meat on “All Hallows’ Eve.” (To heck with that! This is The Outdoor Cooking Show, and around here that means meat!)
